North American river otter (Lontra canadensis) eating Northern pike (Esox lucius), Waterton River, Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada. Well adapted for its aquatic life it has a streamlined body rudder-like tail as well as ear and nostril valves to keep out water. It feeds mainly on fish but will eat small mamals and terrestrial invertebrates.
